Domaine L'Estang Coteaux du Giennois Blanc
April 18th, 2026
If you're searching for a Loire Sauvignon Blanc that delivers both character and value, look no further than Domaine de l’Estang.
Crafted by Bertrand Graillot, who founded the estate in 2004 after training in Beaune and working in Gevrey-Chambertin, Pommard, and Chassagne-Montrachet, this wine come from the Coteaux du Giennois, an under-the-radar appellation just northeast of Sancerre. With only about 180 hectares planted (compared to Sancerre’s 2,600), it’s often thought of as an “insider’s Sancerre”: similar terroir, far less hype, and exceptional value.
While the region is known for light, easygoing wines, Domaine de l’Estang takes things further. Here, Sauvignon Blanc is given a broader, more textural frame, showing off its hallmark Loire minerality with added depth, ripeness, and presence. The wines are less about sharp, citrus-driven intensity and more about balance and dimension.
In the glass, expect inviting aromatics of ripe orchard fruit, white florals, followed by herbal freshness and a mineral backbone. The palate offers gentle grip and real density, with a touch of richness from extended lees contact. Still, everything remains harmonious and fresh, anchored by precise minerality.
If you enjoy Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé but want something that's a bit more textured and undeniably compelling, Domaine de l’Estang is exactly the kind of bottle worth knowing.
