La Kiuva Arnad-Montjovet Supérieur

January 15th, 2026

Tucked away in the heart of Italy’s Aosta Valley, La Kiuva is a high-altitude rebel with deep roots.

Founded in 1975, La Kiuva was one of the first cooperative wineries in the region, uniting today 40–60 local growers who farm some of the steepest vineyards in Europe. These dramatic plots—just 15 hectares total, perched on ancient glacial terraces at 380–500 meters—are too steep for tractors and harvested entirely by hand. The reward? Wines with unmistakable mountain lift, minerality, and elegance.

From this extreme terrain comes the Arnad-Montjovet Supérieur, produced in just ~8,000 bottles annually. The wine is built on at least 70% Picotendro (the local Nebbiolo clone), supported by native Alpine varieties like Gros Vien, Neyret, Cornalin, and Fumin. The result is a Nebbiolo that feels both classic and refreshingly different.

In the glass, it's a brilliant ruby color with pomegranate reflection with aromatic layers of red cherry and plum, alpine herbs, and subtle spice. The palate is dry, elegant, and precise—light-bodied yet persistent, with a smooth but austere structure that keeps you coming back for another sip.

The Supérieur designation means lower yields and longer aging, delivering real complexity and structure without the heavy price tag. While Nebbiolo is often associated with costly Barolo and Barbaresco, the Aosta Valley’s cooler, high-altitude climate produces wines that are fresher, more lifted, and far more approachable in price. This is a bottle that punches well above its weight, consistently over-delivering for its category.

We’re thrilled to be pouring this bottle in the restaurant, so come by and have a glass to try it for yourself. If you love it as much as we do, we’ve got plenty in the retail shop for you to take some home.
