Domaine Fontsainte Gris de Gris Rosé
April 1st, 2026
The first rosé of the vintage has arrived and this year’s release is as irresistible as ever.
The 2025 Gris de Gris from Domaine de Fontsainte bursts with cool citrus, wild strawberry and fresh peach, rounded out with a mouthwatering salty note. To quote the folks at Kermit Lynch, “Does rosé get any better than this?”
The story here runs deep. The first vineyards at Domaine de Fontsainte were planted by the Romans, and Yves Laboucarié’s family has been farming and making wine on this land since the seventeenth century. Today, the estate’s vineyards surround the“Golden Crescent” in Corbières. It’s one of the sunniest pockets in the region, with south-southeast exposure, shelter from cold northern winds, and cooling Mediterranean breezes that keep everything in balance.
What makes this wine truly special, though, is its style.
“Gris de gris” refers to rosé made from pink- or gray-skinned grapes, instead of red grapes. Here the blend is predominantly Grenache Gris (about 90%, with small amounts of Carignan and Mourvèdre). The result is a paler, more delicate expression than typical rosé.
In the cellar, it’s made using the saignée (“bleeding”) method, with very short skin contact to preserve freshness, aromatics, and that beautifully light color.
In the glass, it’s pure and precise, bursting with bright fruit, lifted florals, and a clean, mineral finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.
This is one of the benchmark affordable rosés of France, and year after year it delivers a level of nuance and drinkability that far exceeds its price point. As the weather turns, it’s exactly the kind of bottle you’ll want within reach.
