Achillée Alsace Hespéridé
June 10th, 2026
Every once in a while, a wine comes along that reminds you why orange wine became exciting in the first place. Achillée's Hésperidé isn't about funk or novelty. It's about texture, energy, and layer of complexity that only orange wine can deliver.
Made from Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris, this biodynamic Alsatian wine delivers vibrant fruit, savory spice, and a mouthwatering salinity that makes it remarkably easy to love. Ten days of whole-cluster maceration give it its glowing amber hue and tea-like texture, while aging in oak foudres and stainless steel keeps the wine fresh, energetic, and balanced.
The nose bursts with peach, apricot, pepper, salted butter caramel, and pineapple, with subtle notes of nuts, fresh cheese, and forest floor. On the palate, bright acidity and striking salinity drive flavors of strawberry, rhubarb, apple, cinnamon, black tea, and citrus peel. A gentle bitterness on the finish keeps everything taut and incredibly food-friendly.
What makes Hésperidé so compelling is its balance. There's texture, spice, and savory depth. It's an orange wine with precision.
That approach reflects the philosophy at Achillée. The family estate has been farmed organically since 1999 and biodynamically since 2003, with minimal intervention in the cellar and a focus on expressing vineyard and grape variety as clearly as possible. In 2016, the next generation built a striking straw-bale bioclimatic winery, creating one of the most innovative and environmentally conscious cellars in Europe.
Pair it with Korean fried chicken, duck à l'orange, spicy dishes, rich cheeses, tuna, or fruit-forward desserts. A wine for adventurous palates, but one that's welcoming enough for everyone at the table.
