Chiara Condello Predappio Sangiovese
September 23rd, 2026
Chiara Condello has quickly become one of the most celebrated young winemakers in Romagna, producing Sangiovese with a rare combination of energy, elegance, and individuality. Working from just seven hectares in the hills of Predappio, Chiara has built a style all her own, separate from her family's Condé estate but deeply rooted in the vineyards she calls home.
Since her debut vintage in 2015, her focus has been remarkably clear: to make Sangiovese that speaks honestly of Predappio while reflecting her own voice as a winemaker. Just 4.8 of her seven hectares are planted to Sangiovese, with the rest left as woodland and olive groves, giving her a remarkably small and focused estate.
The setting is important. Predappio sits in the foothills of the Apennines, in Romagna, a historic region that has cultivated Sangiovese for centuries. Although Romagna and Emilia are now part of the same administrative region, they have distinct histories, cultures, and dialects, and Romagna has a compelling claim to Sangiovese all its own. Some experts even argue that the grape originated here rather than in Tuscany.
Chiara's Predappio Sangiovese is a beautiful expression of that place. A Romagna Sangiovese with an authorized subzone designation must be at least 95% Sangiovese, along with lower yields and more stringent aging requirements. Chiara goes even further, making hers with 100% Sangiovese.
Fossil-rich sandstone and high-altitude vineyards give this wine a luminous, and gently spiced character, with aromas of wild red berries, dried orange peel, tomato leaf, black pepper, and underbrush. On the palate, it's remarkably silky. It has all the lively energy we love from Sangiovese, but rather than feeling tart or grippy, it glides across the palate with an almost effortless texture. Medium-bodied and refined, it balances freshness and structure with elegance, finishing with enough mineral energy to make you immediately want another sip.
This is Sangiovese with a strong sense of place, but also a clear sense of personality. It captures the heritage of Romagna while showing what the region can look like in the hands of a new generation of winemakers.
